Social Media Contact Policy
Devon & Somerset Trading Standards Service use Social Media to disseminate our news to consumers and businesses. This includes our activities, events and aspects of our work which are suitable for publication.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of our work, we will not as a matter of course respond to individual contacts made to us on our social media profiles.
If you have recently posted, commented or messaged us via social media, you will be directed to this page in order that you can contact us using one of the following options:
If you are a Consumer and you wish to contact us about an issue affecting you or a relative you can call 03454 04 05 06 or use the webform, which enables you to report a trader or get consumer advice. The Citizens Advice Consumer Service operates this helpline and passes on all the information received to Trading Standards for our information and investigation if required.

If you wish to report suspected illegal activity you believe falls within the Trading Standards Service remit, please note the following:
– We are always happy to receive “tip offs” or information about alleged illegal activity or trading malpractice. However we prefer this information to come to us through the national system – by contacting Citizens Advice as detailed above, you will be able to speak to an advisor who will be able to provide advice on your rights, and will ask you specific questions in order to record the information we find most valuable. The information is then passed to us for assessment and investigation if required. If we require more information, we will contact you.
– Sensitive information received via a post or comment will be hidden from public view. This is because it may jeopardise any ongoing investigation, and could give rise to civil action from a named trader. We do not generally provide information to the public on our investigations, or about complaints received, unless and until a trader is convicted in Court. This is explained in full on our FAQ pages, We operate in accordance with the Regulators Code, and full details of our enforcement policy and Service operation can be found on our Service Plans, Policies and Standards page.
– Where possible we aim to work in co operation with businesses in order to achieve legal compliance.. If you operate a business and you are concerned about the legality of your business practices, please get in touch with us.
The “Devon Somerset Trading Standards” facebook profile – because we are unable to use our TSConnected “page” to join groups, this profile was set up so that we can take a more active role in monitoring sales of items on facebook where they are sold in groups within our area. By joining local buy and sell groups using this profile, we can help to ensure that people posting on groups are not using facebook as a means to sell counterfeit or illegal items, and that those using buy and sell groups can be given advice where appropriate to ensure they are not breaking the law, be it intentionally or otherwise. This work is being carried out in response to increasing intelligence about facebook related sales.
